The 2nd pilot exercise was held on Athens,Greece and specifically in Athens International Airport (AIA). (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens_International_Airport).
The eVACUATE pilot demonstration in AIA held in Athens on Friday January 27, 2017.
Main outcomes: The pilot demonstration went quite well and we had a successful demonstration of the eVACUATE system. Volunteers and end-users had an interesting afternoon and learned about new techniques and possibilities related to safety and security. We were able to handle the power failure which occurred during the pilot demonstration by rescheduling the program in combination with a quick restart of the entire eVACUATE system.
In total the pilot demonstration lasted 2 hours and twenty minutes, including a half hour break to restart the system due to the unscheduled power failure.
A significant improvement of around 45% in evacuation time was achieved, with our system being up and running.
With the second successful pilot we demonstrated that the eVACUATE system can be applied at different venues and in different situations. We still have several issues for improvement of the eVACUATE system and on the organisation of the next pilot demonstration. These improvements focus on more emphasis on the added value of the eVACUATE system for end-users.
