Romanian Police (IGPR) represents a state specialized institution with responsibilities regarding the protection of the fundamental rights and liberties of the individuals, the protection of private and public property, prevention and identification of crimes and observance of public order and safety, pursuant to the law (Law 218/2002, art.1).
Its general objective is to increase its operational and institutional capacity in order to prevent and counter crime and anti-social behavior as stated in the law, as well as to protect private and public patrimony.
IGPR has specific responsibilities in the field of public order, road traffic and transportation, investigating and countering crimes against the individual or public/private property, investigating and countering economic crimes and crimes of organized groups, crime prevention, international police cooperation and other activities for contributing to a safe environment for socio-economic activities.
